The Department of English aspires to promote an intellectual climate through artistic creation, critical mediation and innovative ideation in a culture of reciprocal transformation.
This M. Phil. provides a nine-month course of literary study in the period of ‘the long eighteenth century’. The course consists of seminars and classes, together with individual study and supervision. Training in relevant research skills is included. Students will have access to the magnificent resources of the College Library, one of the few libraries in the Surroundings as well as to many special holdings in College libraries. They will be able to take courses from other selected M. Phils. and to attend lectures in the English Faculty
Course Duration: 1 Year (annual)
Admission: Entrance test cum Merit
Eligibility: The minimum eligibility condition is Master’s Degree in the relevant subject from Madurai Kamaraj University or an examination recognized as equivalent thereto with at least 55% marks. The condition of marks in the Master’s Degree shall be relaxable upto 50 % in the case of University appointed or approved teachers with at least three years service as such.
For Scheduled Caste Candidates:
Minimum eligibility condition will be pass marks in the qualifying examination i.e. Master’s Degree in the respective subject.
